The fourth Winamax PDC European Tour event of the 2025 season is behind us – and Munich impressively proved why it is one of the most legendary tournaments in PDC Europe. Over 20,000 fans flocked to the Zenith over the Easter weekend. The crowd set a new attendance record and witnessed Michael van Gerwen’s 38th European Tour title.
He was overwhelmed after his triumph and said:
‘This definitely means a lot to me. I’m in a very difficult phase of my career. To win this event with the pressure on me week in, week out means the world to me!’
‘Mighty Mike’s’ path to the final was characterised by memorable matches. He played his way into the final exclusively with wins of over 100 points on average. He defeated Kim Huybrechts (6 – 5), Ryan Searle (6 – 1), Ryan Joyce (6 – 4) and Josh Rock (7 – 2) before sending his compatriot Gian van Veen off the stage with an 8 – 5 win in his second European Tour final.
‘I had a great three days here in Munich. I played great in my legs in the final, but didn’t perform in my opponent’s legs. Michael is the deserved winner,’ said van Veen after the defeat in his second European Tour final.
The 22-year-old impressed throughout the tournament and made a name for himself with his semi-final victory over Luke Littler and an outstanding average of over 110 points.
The best German, Martin Schindler, was eliminated in the round of 16. ‘The Wall’ was able to play his way into the final day again as an unseeded player with victories over Mario Vandenbogaerde and Jonny Clayton. There he was defeated by the eventual finalist Gian van Veen.
Like a total of 48 players, he will have the chance to play in another European Tour final next weekend when the PDC Europe heads to Graz.
