The 40 participating nations for the 2026 BetVictor World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt have been finalized. Fans can look forward to a historic comeback for Slovenia, a second team from Africa, and a record-breaking prize fund of £500,000.
From June 11–14, 2026, the Eissporthalle will welcome darts enthusiasts from every corner of the globe. Over four days, 40 two-player teams will battle for the coveted trophy and the prestigious title of Team World Champions.
Slovenia Returns – New Momentum from Africa
For the first time since 2010, Slovenia returns to the World Cup of Darts stage. The team will be led by Benjamin Pratnemer, who secured a coveted Tour Card at the European Q-School earlier this year.
The African continent is also strengthening its presence. Alongside the established South African team—represented by top seed Graham Filby and a second qualifier—a second African nation will step into the spotlight. This spot will be contested in March at a special African Darts Group Qualifier in Nairobi.
Who is Playing? Nomination Criteria
The defending champions from Northern Ireland will lead the field of 33 nations already confirmed. The final pairings for many countries will be determined in May following the Austrian Darts Open. Selection is based on various rankings:
-
For the top nations, the PDC Order of Merit determines the teams.
-
Other countries utilize the Winmau Challenge Tour rankings and various affiliate tours.
-
Hong Kong, Japan, and the Philippines will nominate their squads via the PDC Asian Tour rankings.
-
The USA representative and Jim Long’s partner for Canada will be determined via the CDC two-year rankings.
-
New Zealand’s lineup will be completed via the DPNZ rankings, while two further national pairings will be formed via the PDCNB rankings.
There is a major surprise for Australia: new Tour Card holder Adam Leek will debut alongside Damon Heta. This marks the first time in the history of the World Cup of Darts that Simon Whitlock will be absent. For Spain, Cristo Reyes returns to the big stage after regaining his Tour Card, while Jose de Sousa continues to represent Portugal.
Proven Format and Increased Prize Money
The 2026 World Cup of Darts remains true to its popular format: all matches will be played exclusively as Doubles.
The Tournament Format:
-
The top four seeded nations (based on cumulative Order of Merit rankings) receive a bye and start directly in the Round of 16.
-
The remaining 36 teams will compete in 12 groups of three, fighting for a place in the knockout stage.
-
On Sunday evening, the remaining teams will contest the Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals, and the Grand Final.
Beyond sporting glory, there is more on the line this year: the total prize pool has been increased to £500,000, with the winning duo taking home a massive £100,000 prize.
