It is a day for the darts history books: Beau Greaves has become the first woman in PDC history to win a Pro Tour title. At the Players Championship event in Milton Keynes, the 22-year-old prevailed in a high-class final with an 8-7 victory over Michael Smith, crowning herself a floor title winner for the first time.
In doing so, Greaves once again demonstrated her extraordinary quality and nerves of steel. After falling behind 0-2, she turned the match around with five consecutive leg wins and later landed the Big Fish to move 6-3 ahead. In the closing stages of the final, she remained unfazed by Smith’s comeback, ultimately deciding the match with a stunning 142 finish in the decider.
With this triumph, Greaves continues her impressive development on the Pro Tour and writes yet another chapter of darts history. She had previously become the first woman to reach a Pro Tour quarter-final.
“Maybe this first one is just the beginning, I don’t know. To win a title like this is simply incredible. Apart from my Lakeside World Championship titles, this is probably my greatest achievement ever!” — an overjoyed Beau Greaves said in the post-match interview.
