Thrills, Excitement, and Top-Class Darts Action – This weekend in Hildesheim, the Host Nation Qualifiers for the first four German European Tour events of 2025 took place. Well over 100 players took on the challenge, competing for one of the coveted spots in the tournaments. Alongside established names and returning players, several newcomers also secured their place on the big stage.
Paul Krohne claimed a spot at the European Darts Trophy in Göttingen. The former Tour Card holder had voluntarily relinquished his Tour Card at the end of last season and will now make his debut on the European Tour. A surprise came from 23-year-old Laurin Welk, who will also make his debut in Göttingen. Michael Unterbuchner is set to return to the European Tour in Göttingen, and the Host Nation Qualifier lineup is completed by former Tour Card holder Daniel Klose.
The 45-year-old Klose had a perfect Saturday and also qualified for the International Darts Open in Riesa. Darts fans in Riesa can look forward to another debutant with Paul Goyer playing his first European Tour event. Meanwhile, Patrick Klingelhöfer seems to have taken a liking to Riesa, where he made his debut on Europe’s biggest darts stage last year. With a 6-3 victory in the decisive match against Marcel Erba, he secured his place and will play his second European Tour event in Riesa. Fans can also celebrate a PDC Europe comeback: Kevin Knopf returns to the European Tour for the first time since Hildesheim 2019.
The German Darts Grand Prix in Munich will also feature high-caliber qualifiers. Veteran Michael Rosenauer returns to the European Tour after five years. “Rosi501” already represented Germany at the World Championship in the legendary Ally Pally in 2008 and was last seen on the European Tour in Riesa in 2020. Additionally, local hero Michael Unterbuchner from Landsberg will compete in Munich. Another debutant in Munich will be Finn Behrens, while Rene Eidams secured his ticket with a narrow 6-5 victory in a deciding match against Marcel Gerdon.
Michael Unterbuchner, Paul Krohne and Daniel Klose also qualified for the European Darts Grand Prix in Sindelfingen. The fourth starting place for the traditional tournament in the Glaspalast goes to Marcel Erba, who will celebrate his European Tour debut on May 2nd.
“The increasing number of fresh, new faces regularly making the leap onto the European Tour stage is a very positive sign for the development of German darts. At the same time, the return of a veteran like Michael Rosenauer shows that experience remains a crucial factor in this sport,” says Philip Brzezinski, Tournament Director and Head of Sport at PDC Europe.
